Semi-Suspensions: Friend or Foe?

The floor can be your best friend . . . or your worst enemy.

In life, as in ropes, we tend to strive towards the sky . Fly higher and higher, like Ikarus to explore the vast Limitlessness of the universe. But like Ikarus, flying too high can lead to our demise. Why do we overlook the possibilities that the liminal space between the earth and the sky has to offer? We want to shine a light on this vieled landscape. Inspired by the hedge-riders of old times we will use the tied up body, the intentions of the the rigger, the supporting ground and the airy space to create trance like states in each other. For the ones that want to deepen their practice and evolve from floorwork, we will go over the principles of suspendable structures, up-lines and lock-offs. For the ones that are used in dabbling in the affairs of the air, we will provide new insights on why semi-suspensions can put more of a strain on the body and the mind in our tied up partners. Principles from martial arts, yoga and dance will be used to let the canvas of a session unfold in us in manifold new ways. Explore the subtle field of the in-between with us, to answer yourself this question: is the earth your friend, or foe? 

VÆGABØUND (he/him)

VÆGABØUND has been tying over 10 years, with a deeper exploration of Shibari since 4 years. With his background in martial arts, dance and as a systemic coach, he has found his unique way of interacting with his partners through ropes. With a focus on movement, photographic aesthetics and the playful interaction between him and his partners, he describes himself as Sensualist rather than a sadist. Viewing the person in ropes to be played like an instrument to co-create symphonies of dark and light. 

He's been teaching as a Kink-Educator throughout Europe, in corporation with festivals, conventions, retreats and on his own together with his partner Lola Sapieha. VÆGABØUND offers private classes and sessions, aswell as sells hand refined ropes for Shibari in his online shop. 

Lola Sapieha (she/they)

Lola Sapieha is an active member of the European rope scene since 2021, offering classes and private sessions. As a Kink-Educator they work together with VÆGABØUND or on their own to bring the topics of an explorative sexuality to the broader masses. Sapieha's background in yoga, bodywork and the medical field explore conscious ritual through Shibari to garner knowledge of the emotional landscapes through observations of the body and trancelike introspection. They examine how beauty, suffering, sensuality, sexuality and serenity are interwoven into an intricate pattern that make up the very fabric of the soul. 

As a rope (s)witch they can offer an indepth view from within as well as outside of the tie. This said, they love the feeling of "Schadenfreude", when they tie or think up exercises with a deviant smile because they know exactly how it feels. 

Requirements
- Willingness to dive into challenging states for the body and the mind
- Good communication
- Ropes (min. 8)*
- Blindfold or longer piece of fabric to incorporate into the ties
- Knowledge about safety, risks and possible injuries in ropes
- Solid upper body harness of your choosing

*There will be a limited amount of hemp ropes for practice or the possibilities to purchase ropes in our pop-up store at a 10% discount. If you want a specific set of ropes, please reach out to VÆGABØUND individually beforehand. You can find our ropes in the store on our website.

Rules

- Level intermediate to advanced
- Nudity is allowed, but not mandatory
- 18+
- No video or sound recordings, pictures of your own creation will be allowed. The settings for this will be discussed at the beginning of the class
- Dress for the session if you want
