Asiana and Door demonstrate an impressive symbiosis of technique and emotional awareness that results in an exceptional way of teaching and performing Kinbaku, infusing the tradition with a very fresh and modern touch. Asiana's tying combines a profound technical knowledge with precise gestures and movements, she designs intense challenges with a stunning sense for aesthetics. Door collaborates at eye level through her impressive presence, devotion, body awareness and expressivity. Their way of communicating and collaborating in and with rope is examplary and beautifully demonstrates the importance of refined contact between rigger* and model*. In their workshops the role of the rope model's skills and mind set is highlighted and they both equally share about their role in this magical dialogue.

(Advanced) Frictions

If you look at any kind of rope bondage from a pure technical point of view, tying comes down to one or two knots, wraps and frictions. Frictions are therefore an essential part of any tie we do. They do not have just a decorative function, if at all. In this workshop you learn to become even better and more efficient at your tying these frictions. This means upping your finger skills, rope handling and dexterity. Besides that, you will get a good grasp of why you are using which friction for what purpose. There is not one friction that suits all purposes. This workshop means getting back-to-basics, but at a high level.

Hishi

Hishi litterally means 'chestnut' in Japanese. It also represents the diamond shape, which can be found regularly in family crests and on kimonos and flags. In hojōjutsu, the ancient martial art of restraining someone with rope, the number of hishi's in a bondage would indicate the status of the prisoner; the more hishi's, the higher the status. We'll explore several bondages with hishi. There are many variations: with the arms incorporated in the tie or not, including the legs or not. These bondages may range from comfortable to 'wear' to suffering, but always look very beautiful. The challenge with hishi is adjusting them to each body type and getting the placement and tension right. When well-constructed or in combination with more wraps they may also be suitable for suspension.

Asymmetrical semi-suspensions

Semi-suspensions can be the most fun and challenging ties there are. Even if you’re doing suspensions, during your session there will be at least two moments where you will have semi-suspensions.

During this workshop you will explore the combination of semi-suspensions with asymmetry. You’ll find out what asymmetry does to the model, and how you can consciously use that to get them out of balance, both physically and mentally. The semi-suspension adds to that feeling. This workshop is suitable to advanced levels.

Asiana

Asiana’s love for rope started with the beginning of the internet in the 90’s when she was fascinated by the first images of tied up Japanese women. It wasn’t until well into the millenium that she had her first hands-on experience as a model. Almost simultaneously she picked up her first ropes and started tying herself and became hooked. At first she only tied male bodies, but since then has tied with numerous people of various gender, body size and shapes. To learn Kinbaku Asiana went abroad to learn from well-known nawashi.

Nowadays she’s quite well-known in her home country, the Netherlands, and has been running RopeLounge in Amsterdam for 8.5 years. She loves sharing her knowledge and teaches at a regular basis. At the same time she is an avid student. In 2017 she spent a few months in Japan to immerse herself in the Japanese culture, to better understand the context of kinbaku. She’s particularly drawn to semenawa, aesthetics and the intimacy of kinbaku. Rope is the perfect tool to express herself. She truly enjoys making her partner suffer.

Her main partner is Door. Together they perform and teach regularly. And even though she regards herself as a reluctant performer, she loves to put Door in the limelight.

Door

For Door, rope modelling is a never-ending journey of going deeper into the current moment and into herself. In a rope session she has no goal other than Being, to the best of her abilities. She sees herself as a raw material used by the rigger in their creative process and in that she believes that both roles are instrumental in achieving high quality of their bondage. Model - by being honest, expressive and inspiring to the rigger. Rigger - by bringing the best out of them through mastery of their craft. Both sides need practice, in and outside of ropes. Therefore, apart from kinbaku she also practices performing arts and various body-mind techniques to enrich her rope modelling.

Door admires the versatility of rope and she enjoys being tied in many styles (which ties well with the eclectic style of her partner, Asiana). There is no particular style she prefers but she appreciates the ones that focus on the emotional and SM side of ropes and japanese-influenced aesthetic for their subtle beauty combined with eroticism.
